Once again the server shows this Exception:

javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: java.security.cert.CertificateException: No subject alternative names present

This time I solved it by adding the certificates DNS names in the file /etc/hosts.

Finally,

This page shows how to go from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8 but the reverse order works as well. I still am trying to find out what it is that sets the default (startup) charmap i ubuntu. Keep checking and an update may be posted.

Reduce large font sizes in KDE

Are you, like me, surprised and annoyed over the large fonts when running KDE, read on I have come up with the solution.

Maybe you found that running KDE setup tool allows you to adjust the font from default 10 pt to 7 pt to make a more appropriate font size. This was what I did. Then you run Firefox, Eclipse or some other software not made by KDE and found, like me, that here the font is large, not saying huge. This made me wonder and trying to google a solution.

I found this idea; append -- -dpi 75 after the call to startx. True, this solves the problem but where should you enter this command to make it start automatically. Personally I can handle going to runlevel 3 and then manually type startx -- -dpi 75 and start working; hell I prefere it like that. My wife and children on the otherhand are'nt as console loving as I. Here is what I did.

After googling for a good two days I altered the xorg.conf file manually and changed this in Section Monitor:
DisplaySize 370 230 --> DisplaySize 677 423
How on earth did you come up with those figures you may wonder; well I simply took the x and y resolution of my monitor which is 1920x1200, divided each value by my preferred dpi which is 72. This brings me:
1920 / 72 = 26.67"
1200 / 72 = 16.67"
Since display size is in millimeter I multiplied this with 25.4:
1920 / 72 * 25.4 = 677.33
1200 / 72 * 25.4 = 423.33

Have been trying to get my cvs server running on my Fedora server for quite a while now.

After googling for several hours I realized that my server wasn't running at all. The easiest way to verify this is to fire up an telnet session on a remote machine within the local network like this.
telnet server.ip.num.ber 2401
If the response is Can't connect to host... the service isn't running.

I went on reading how to start the cvs server on a linux system and it was very strait forward how to resolve this issue. Just edit the text file in /etc/xinet.d according to specifications and restart the xinet.d. My only problem was that I couldn't restart my xinet.d, in fact there wasn't any xinet.d installed on my system.

Googling this issue didn't resolve the issue but kicked me in the right direction. Install xinet.d!

OK! But where do I find this program? My installation hasn't installed it and according to Google a lot of Fedora users hasn't got it eighter.

I found it on redhats website, here:

After installing this it was downhill afterwards.

Changing working catalog on IIS

If you want to keep your directories neat and tidy and uses IIS you will end up with a "HTTP 401.3 - Access denied by ACL on resource" error after you have made the change of working catalog in IIS.

I want to have all my development code under a master folder in my home folder with the name development and then subfolders for the type of code it is like html, java, delphi, c++ and so fourth.

To be able to test the code without have to move or copy it to the Inetpub/wwwroot folder over and over again I changed the working catalog in IIS to the development folder.

The result was that I couldn't browse to this webfolder after that and instead received a "HTTP 401.3 - Access denied by ACL on resource" to the browser.
The reason for this is that the default user hasn't got access rights to read your catalog - and thanks for that.

Solution:
Make sure that you are never going to place your computer connected to the internet without a secure firewall and the change the anonomous account to yours. Then it will work as supposed again.

Beware that this is a security issue you are creating but it is fine if the above is in concideration.

Finally solved!

I have spent more than two days now on solving following Xorg error:

Not using mode "1280x800" (no mode of this name)

When browsing the /var/log/Xorg.0.log i found that the actual found
resolutions was multiplied by 4 and that there wasn't any resolution
found for 1280x4.

After two days passed I went to visit wiki.x.org where I found an edit
made stating that bu running 855resolution 4d 1280 800 once before
running X.

I tried to do this and it worked like a charm! Yippey!

Finally I wrote a startup.sh script contaning this and added it to
runlevel 5.

It now works for me!

Don't set cookies when binary sending pdf to IE

I just discovered that it isn't recommended to set cookies at the same
time you send a binary stream, e.g. pdf, to a IE browser.

It isn't the cookie itself that is the problem but when a cookie is set
a header Cache-Control: no-cache="set-cookie, set-cookie2" is issued and
this is the problem.

Solution: Don't set the cookie.
